Digital radiograph is a form of xray imaging, where a digital sensor is used instead of a traditional photographic film. They are much more time efficient and gives us the capability to store the images on a computer. This full screen image can be enhanced and aid in our diagnosis and provide easier communication with the patient. The Schick digital radiography that we use in our office also has 90% lower radiation dosage than the conventional film radiography.

IV (intravenous) sedation induces a state of deep relaxation and a feeling of not being bothered by what’s going on. This sedative can relax patients to the point where they can receive dental care, ie root canal treatment, without the anxiety and fear they normally deal with. In our offices, IV sedation is carried out under the supervision of an anesthesiologist or specially trained dentist.

Nitrous Oxide is a gas that’s combined with Oxygen to produce a calming effect and a sense of well being when inhaled. We use Nitrous Oxide to help you relax during dental treatment when needed. Dr. Szeto, Dr. Izadi and Dr. Holman are fully trained and experienced in using the adjunct medication for comfortable treatment. Please be advised Nitrous Oxide gas is only offered in our Lake Forest practice.

The bacterial population of infected root canals can be significantly reduced by using saline irrigation; however, irrigants that have antibacterial effects have clearly superior effectiveness in bacterial elimination when compared with saline solution. The irrigants that are currently used during cleaning and shaping include NaOCl, CHX, EDTA and MTAD. Sonic and ultrasonic vibrations alone or in combination with antibacterial irrigants as well as application of negative pressure have been used to increase the efficacy of these irrigants. Intracanal medicaments have been used to disinfect root canals between appointments and reduce interappointment pain. The major intracanal medications currently used in endodontics include Ca(OH)2 and CH.
